A 69-year-old lady with Chronic Renal Failure undergoing hemodialysis complained of severe back pain.
MRI revealed infective focus at T 11-12 level.
CT scan showed gross destruction of T 11-12 vertebra with loss of structural support to the spine.
Surgery was done to fix the spine with Pedicle screws. The vertebral body destroyed by infection was replaced with a cage and bone graft.
This surgery restores the mechanical stability of the spine.
Her cultures grew E. coli for which she was treated with antibiotics.
