32 year old lady complained of sudden onset back pain radiating down to both lower limbs and had partial loss of bowel and urine control. She had a BMI of 29 kg/m2 and weighed 145 kgs.
MRI revealed a disc herniation at L4-5 level with compression at the lower Lumbar Nerve roots.
Cauda Equina Syndrome is a condition where in the compression of Lumbar nerve roots leads to loss of control over bowel/ Urine.
This was a surgical emergency and patient needed to be operated within 24 hours of presentation.
Patient was operated with L4-5 microdiscectomy. She had a good recovery from pain and her control over urine regained gradually.
